Sea Nymphs and Sea Creatures

The last month and a half has been devoted to getting ready for my first art showing in a long time. The show is at Macrina Bakery and Cafe in SODO for the month of December and then moves to the Queen Anne location in January. The opening reception was on Monday evening, which happened to be a very chilly night, but with so many of my friends, coworkers and family there to supprt me, it was a warm night indeed. These fantastic photos are courtesy of Johann Gomez.

Obelisk Painting

A commissioned painting for the restaurant Obelisk in Washington, DC. I like to always have something in mind or an object to include in each painting I do on commission so that I have a focal point. In this case, the requirement was to include several obelisks.

Emma

This is a drawing of Emma, one of our friends in Silver Spring.

The Birth of Snort

This little piggy went to market, this little piggy hangs in the L'Accademia. This illustration was part of a series I made for Sourefire's annual calendar. The pig is their mascot and appears in a series of classic pieces of art. We're starting work on the 2010 calendar...this one is from 2009.

Squadra Ciclismo Cascina Spinasse

This is my design for the bike jersey I will wear along with 19 other team riders in the 30th annual STP (Seattle to Portland) on July 11th and 12th. Cascina Spinasse is sponsoring our team, so we should have some nice food before during and after the event. We will ride 203 miles with 10,000 other cyclists (and perhaps a skateboarder or two).

Summer Bugs and Crabs

Some little things I'm working on at work. Fun!

Inspiration in an Unexpected Place

It's funny to merge the items of two people, which was pretty easy for me and Jerry because we have similar tastes. I have always found these framed Italian razor blades that he picked up at a flea market in Perugia to be an odd but enduring source of inspiration.

Water Nymph Drawing

I drew this water nymph as a Valentine's Day present.

Garden Inspiration

Spring is here finally after a difficult winter. We burned piles of old dead branches last night and the grass is freshly mowed, so now all the new blooms are really popping. All these spring colors are inspiring me and making me feel very happy.

Under the Sea

For the last year when I sit down to paint, I've been painting fish and underwater scenes. My fishies are kind of cartoony and cute.

Wedding Cake

When my friends Lorie and John decided to get hitched, we all decided to throw together a party for them (we had a week's notice). I made this little cake. I'm no pastry chef, but I did have fun making it and it was delicious. Photo courtesy of Geoff Smith.

American Bar

I love a nice little cocktail every now and again, and I like the book by Charles Schumann called American Bar. It has a classic design with the best illustrations by Günter Mattei.

Beautiful Things

I wish I knew what kind of flowers these are. I've had them for about six months and they've dried in the most beautiful way.

Sneaker Pimp

These shoes were made for me by my friends and colleagues in DC, as a going-away gift. They have a prized spot in my studio.

Inspiration

The door to my studio (which is also the office and closet!) is plastered with various postcards I've collected through the years.
